Jordan School Board has approved a reopening plan for school with two options. Families can chose to have their children attend in person.  Classes will be held Monday through Thursday.  Students will not be required to attend in person on Fridays. The second option allows for full-time virtual learning from home with a Jordan School District teacher.  More information regarding the reopening plan can be found here:  jordandistrict.org/2020/08/board-approved-reopening-plan/ .

If you want to choose the online option, you will go to the above link and complete the form entitled, "Registration for Virtual Online Learning for the 2020-2021 School Year."  This form needs to be completed by July 31, 2020.  Chromebooks will be available for check-out for students who have elected the online option.  Distribution dates will be posted as soon as they become available.

Face coverings will be worn by all students until further notice.  Exceptions may be granted in accordance with the July 17, 2020 Governor's Order Regarding Face Coverings.  Face coverings will be worn by all employees.

School beginning dates for each track are listed below. The first day of regular school is an orientation day for first grade students.  The first six days of school for Kindergarten students is entry testing.  Each student will set an individual appointment to come in for testing with their teacher.  This is the only time the student will attend during the first six days.  More information on scheduling either first-grade orientation or Kindergarten testing appointments will be sent soon.

The Jordan School District Board of Education is considering options that will allow all schools in the district to be on a traditional school calendar by fall of 2021. One of the options being considered is the relocation of the ALPS program from Jordan Ridge Elementary to another school. Relocating the ALPS program would allow the Board to consider boundary changes that will help better balance enrollment at South Jordan Elementary and surrounding schools. Boundary changes may involve South Jordan Elementary, Jordan Ridge Elementary, and other schools. Options for boundary changes will be studied by the Board in the coming months. Additional information will be forthcoming regarding the boundary process and opportunities for public comment in future meetings.

The Board will be discussing ALPS and will potentially vote on whether to move the program from Jordan Ridge during the Board Meeting held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the JATC-South, 12723 Park Ave, Riverton, UT 84065. In addition, the meeting will be streamed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/user/jordanschooldistrict/live beginning at 6:30 pm.

There are two ways to make a public comment at this meeting. Each method will be limited to 45 minutes for a total of 90 minutes.

  1. Members of the public who attend the meeting in person and wish to speak to the Board may sign-up to make a comment at the JATC-South beginning at 6:00 p.m.

  2. Members of the public not attending in person but who would like to provide a comment to be read during the meeting may pre-submit comments to boardcomments@jordandistrict.org.

In order to allow more people to be heard, brevity is encouraged, and those who have not previously made comments on this issue may be given priority over those who have previously commented. Comments, including group comments, will be limited to 3 minutes. Groups with similar viewpoints are encouraged to share a single representative comment. No new public comment may be submitted once the comment period has closed. If you would like to submit a comment that is not read in the public meeting, please email your Board Member.

Dear South Jordan Parents,

Due to the possibility that year-round schools may not be able to open in July, the Jordan School District Board of Education has determined that South Jordan Elementary will move to a delayed start year-round calendar this fall. This decision came after the Board carefully reviewed survey information in which a majority of parents and teachers preferred a delayed start year-round calendar.

Please note the following start dates:

  • A and B track students in grades 1-6 will now begin school on August 17, 2020.
    • A and B track Kindergarten students will begin school on August 25, 2020.
  • D track students in grades 1-6 still begin school on August 20, 2020.
    • D track Kindergarten students will begin school on August 28, 2020.
  • C track students in grades 1-6 will now begin school on September 10, 2020.
    • C track Kindergarten students will begin school on September 18, 2020.
  • A, B, and C tracks have online learning sessions during off-track windows.  More information will be forthcoming.
  • The main office will send out information regarding registration and teacher assignments this summer.

Your child’s safety and well-being are our top priority. We understand that this is an unexpected transition during unprecedented times and we will do our best to help students adjust to this change.
